giving back

10% of every purchase will go directly to funding the distribution of clean birthing kits and their journey to birthing attendants in developing countries. This means access to a safer, clean birth for mamas across the world.

Nourish is proud to partner with Kit International previously known Birthing Kit Foundation Australia. No woman should die while giving life. Over 300,000 women die annually from pregnancy or childbirth-related complications. The majority of these are in developing countries. Kit International is an organisation dedicated to improving the conditions for women all over the world by providing clean Birthing Kits. The simple contents provide the resources to reduce infection and fatalities.

  • A plastic sheet to prevent the mother and newborn coming into contact with the ground or an unhygienic surface

  • A sterile blade to cut the umbilical cord cleanly and reduce risk of newborn sepsis and tetanus

  • Gloves to cover the birth attendant's hands and provide protection from infections such as HIV for carers and care recipients

  • Clean cord ties to tie the umbilical cord

  • Gauze to wipe clear the newborn baby’s eyes, and to clean the mother’s perineum prior to giving birth

  • Soap to wash the birth attendant’s hands and the mother’s perineum

Each birthing kit is assembled, transported and distributed free of charge to mothers, birth attendants or service providers in often remote locations. Kits are accompanied by instructions on use and disposal and are integrated into local maternal and newborn health programs run by BKFA field partners.
